Welcome to Tekken-Do Shotokan Karate Way of the Iron Fist™

Tekken-Do was established on September 2002. It was formed with the help and guidance of Shihan Moises de la Cruz and Felipe Pichardo, a student and partner in practice of Kihon Dojo, our second home.

The name Tekken-Do (created by Sensei Luis Castillo) came about from the training our Shihan used to put us through. The word Tekken (鉄拳) in Japanese literally translates to "Iron Fist". While Dō (道)translates to "Way". The full name is "Way of the Iron Fist" or "Iron Fist Way". The training consisted of fist condition with methods used in traditional Karate which included but is not limited to knuckle push ups, Makiwara, heavy weight sand bags, etc. It was inspiring and thus Sensei Luis believe it deserved a name.

Tekken-Do was created to help introduce and spread Shotokan Karate and Martial Arts in general to the Washington Heights Community. Our goal is to expand the traditions to more communities and give our children something different and fulfilling in life in which they can apply in real world situations.

As part of the training, we have introduced the team leader roles to help students guide others on the right path of training.
At the same time to give them that confidence to manage a large group of people and the ability to work as a team. Some of the same qualities the corporate world looks for. Just an example of what Martial Arts can offer.
We hope to see you soon on the training floor.
